STEVE CLIFTON
winemaker and owner
La Voix is Steve Clifton’s first solo project focusing exclusively on French wine varietals.
Steve has been making wine in Santa Barbara County for over 25 years under his Palmina and Brewer-Clifton labels. Proudly, Steve and partner Greg Brewer’s 2012 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir had the honor recently of being selected #8 in Wine Spectator’s top 100 wines of the world!
His first wine job was in the tasting room at Rancho Sisquoc where he eventually graduated to the position of Assistant Winemaker. Over the next few years he managed the retail section of The Wine Cask in downtown Santa Barbara and held winemaking positions at Beckmen, Brander and Domaine Santa Barbara wineries.
Beautiful wines that convey the voice of a vineyard and variety, to deliver a singular sensation and experience
Before wine, Steve had a successful career in the music industry as a singer, booking agent, and studio producer. His passion for music began with an obsession with David Bowie, and has stuck with him ever since. La Voix is deeply informed by Steve’s pioneering work producing single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Santa Rita Hills at Brewer Clifton. In launching La Voix, we like to point out that “Steve learned the classic techniques with Brewer-Clifton. He created a structure that engaged classic techniques so that the wines could be heard and understood clearly but he has an inner voice that said it was time to change.”
Now, after almost two decades of rigorously applying those classic techniques, Steve has launched La Voix to create beautiful wines that convey the voice of a vineyard and variety, to deliver a singular sensation and experience.
