For the Love of Wine & Music

November 7, 2015

“Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence”
—Robert Fripp

This project is incredibly exciting for me. Earlier in my life, music was my main motivator and the way that I was able to sustain myself. I feel equally blessed that since then, I have had a wonderful life surrounded not only by music, but also by food and wine. I have always felt a very strong connection between my love for music and wine, and have always leaned upon the same vocabulary to express myself in both mediums. With La Voix, I hope I can more clearly express those feelings of gratitude to everyone that has been so supportive for so many years.

The similarities between music and wine have always been obvious for anyone that listens… or sips. I want to explore more than just the obvious. Something deeper. There is something more primal. Music and wine are two things that enjoy a history together that have spanned at least ten thousand years. They have always been linked, always inter-twined. When wine and song meet, people and the earth seem to link in a way that seldom happens otherwise. There is a song that the soil sings, and it sings through wine.

Steve Clifton sharing La VoixI want to find a clear channel to express the same emotional expression through wine as through music. Whether classical, rock, reggae, whatever… everyone finds voice. And through wine it is the same. White, red orange, etc.…

Born from a love for both wine and music, I wanted to allow La Voix to explore all the sensory and emotional stimulations that are shared by both mediums. Through performance and recording, music conveys a powerful emotional expression. Equally, through soils, vineyards and production, wine creates an equal stirring of human feeling. Both rely on dynamics, and the tension created by harmonizing high, medium and low frequencies. A memory, a feeling, a nostalgia can be conjured by a single sip, a single note.

Palmina.2.Social.Media.Jeremy.Ball.LRJust as music will always evolve, through instrumentation, or recording, so wine will also. Reel to reel, vinyl, 8 track, cassette, cd, and back to vinyl… Oak, new oak, stainless, amphora, and beyond, the stage is the same. Is the audience ready?

These are the first offerings of La Voix. Our production is small and current offerings will be allocated carefully. We are incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm for these new wines and are excited for you to try them.

With gratitude,
Steve Clifton
